JAMMU, Nov 27:’Vet Fest-2k19′, a three days annual college fest of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, R S Pura was today inaugurated by Prof. K.S Risam, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu. He was the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Prof. Risam inaugurated the event by releasing pigeons and flagging off 100 meters race of students.
Tug of war among teaching and non-teaching staff and inaugural cricket match among undergraduate students was also witnessed by the Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Risam inspected the proceedings of cut flower arrangement, photography, poster making and other fine arts events. The dignitaries were greeted on the occasion with ceremonial Dhol and Boliyaan in the form of a cultural procession organized by the students.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Risam stressed upon the role of such events in rejuvenating the mind and spirits of students and faculty. He said that SKUAST-Jammu has always fostered creativity, talent and innovation, which are further encouraged by organization of such events. He emphasized that such events are not only showcase of amazing talent of the students but are also affirmation of our commitment towards preserving rich cultural heritage. Interacting with the students, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Prof. M.M.S. Zama highlighted that Vet Fest-2k19 is the fourth in the series of VetFests that started in 2016. He said that these events have developed as a celebration of cultural diversity that is the hallmark of any University and has contributed a lot in instilling values such as leadership and team-playing among students.
Also present on the occasion were Dr. T.A.S. Ganai, Director Education; Dr. S.E.H. Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences; Dr. Deepak Kher, Director (Planning & Monitoring); Mr. Manzoor Hussain, Estates Officer; Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Students Welfare; Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, In-charge Examination Cell; Veterinary faculty and non-teaching staff among others.
Under-graduate and post-graduate Veterinary students of SKUAST-Jammu will compete in various sports, cultural, literary and fine arts events from 27th – 29th November, 2019 as a part of the Fest.
