JAMMU, Jan 28: Veteran Freedom fighter and a leader of progressive movement in J&K, Prithvi Nath Kaul who breathed his last here, yesterday after a prolonged illness was cremated this afternoon at Shakti Nagar Cremation Ground.
He was 94. Born in village Wasoora in Pulwama district of Kashmir, he is survived by four daughters. The late leader was jailed number of times during his life time for championing the cause of working class.
He took active part in freedom movement and went underground number of times. Later during the political Government of G M Sadiq he was jailed for three months in Reasi for taking the cause of working class. He was instrumental in founding the Khakrob Movement in J&K with late Dr N N Raina and fought for their cause.
Koul had closely worked with Justice J N Koul Kilm and other senior leaders like Pandit Trilochan Dutt, Bhagat Chaju Ram, Sonam Wangyal and Munshi Habibullah. He was granted life time freedom fighters pension by Government of India.
He till his last breath did not compromise with his principles and fought for the rights of down-trodden and oppressed people in the State.
