Veteran Gojri writer passes away

JAMMU Jan 7 : Veteran Gojri writer, poet and researcher and former Home Secretary Jammu and Kashmir Ch. Qaisar ud Din Qaisar -who originally belongs to Karanah , Kupwara passed away today at Bangalore after a brief illness. He was 85. According to family sources he was suffering from multiple organ failure.
His Nimaz e Jenazah was performed today at Bangalore where his family is residing since a decade.
He survived with two sons Aijaz Qaisar and Shamim Qaisar His Rasm e Chaharum will be observed at his native town Karanah, Kupwara on Friday.
While speaking at a condolence meeting organised by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation, noted Tribal researcher, Dr. Javaid Rahi stated that Qaisar was known as his versatility in Gojri fiction as a short story writer. His writing especially fiction got highest appreciations across Indo-Pak in Gojri speaking areas. He has written a number of books comprising of short-stories besides revolutionary poetry in Gojri, Rahi said.
Dr. Rahi stated that being a first graduate of Gujjar community from Kashmir Valley he was a role model for Tribal people residing in far-flung areas who raised to the rank of Home Secretary of J&K from a poorest family residing on Line of Control on Indo Pak border. Qaisar has contributed a lot for the welfare of nomadic Gujjar and Bakerwal communities of Jammu and Kashmir. He was among the intellectuals who struggled hard in the movement of the community for grant of ST status- which was later granted by the Government of India in 1991 to J&K Gujjars and Bakerwals.
The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages has awarded him several times for his contributions towards Gujjar Culture and Gojri language, he said.
Among other who spoke on the occasion include Gojri writer and Broadcaster, Ch Hassan Parwaz , Ch. Amin Qammar, Ch. Munshi Khan, Ishtiaq Misbah, Mehmood Chowdhary, Khadam Hussain Kohli, Basharat Shameem, Shokat Chowdhary and others.
