POONCH, July 14: Activists of Vishav Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal (BD) today held protest demonstration here against the inconvenience caused to Mata Vaishnodevi and Shri Amarnath ji pilgrims in view of violence on National Highway at Bari Brahmana near Jammu last evening.
A large number of activists of both these organizations led by Nishu Gupta, district president of the Dal assembled at main City Chowk at Poonch and started protest demonstration. They burnt the effigy of NC-led Coalition Government and shouted slogans against the Chief Minister. They disrupted movement of traffic for about two hours and demanded action against the DC and SP Samba for failure to prevent violence by taking timely action.
They alleged that violence at Bari Brahmana on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway was allowed to flare up deliberately to disrupt annual yatra, create communal tension and create fear among the pilgrims visiting Shri Amarnath ji and Mata Vaishnodevi shrines. They alleged that District and Divisional Administration remained inactive and a large number of pilgrims and other commuters were held up for over 4-5 hours on the highway.
Mr Gupta while addressing large gathering warned the Government to desist from such acts and maintained that on earlier occasions also yatra was targeted deliberately. There seems to be a conspiracy to disrupt yatra and Union Home Ministry must hold independent inquiry into the matter. He also demanded action against the DC and SP Samba besides Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for their failure to act swiftly and stop violence at Bari Brahmana.
