VHP for reconstitution of SMVD, other Shrine Boards

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 2: While supporting the demand of reconstitution of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), VHP today demanded that those local members be inducted in it who have faith in Sanatan Dharam and are men of integrity.
Talking to reporters here, VHP State president, Leela Karan Sharma said that his organization favours reconstitution of Board by including the local scholars, social activists, who have a faith in Sanatan Dharam and are men of integrity. However, he opposed the induction of local MP, local MLA, Deputy Commissioner and SSPs of the concerned districts as its members.
Mr Sharma said that VHP is not opposed to reconstitution of the Board but made it clear that Mata Vaishno Devi is a Hindu Shrine Board and the Act by which the Board is constituted provides that its chairman should be Governor of the State and if the Governor is a non Hindu he will nominate a Hindu as his representative as chairman.
While not favouring the demand of inclusion of local MP, MLA , DC and SSP of the concerned district as its members, Mr Sharma said the statement has been made without reading the provisions of the Act. He said the MP,MLA, DC and SSP could be Hindu, Muslim or of any other faith so they can’t be nominated as members of the Board, which is against the provisions of the Act. These people must clarify their position on the issue, he added.
He also opposed the appointment of concerned Deputy commissioner as chairman of Mata Sukhrala Devi, Mata Bala Sundri and Shiv Khori and other shrine boards irrespective of the fact whether they have faith in Sanatan Dharam or not. These boards have not made any effective improvement and they are not rendering any accounts, he added.
He said even the religious practices being followed by centuries are not followed by these boards. He demanded that these boards be also reconstituted by inducting those people in them who have faith in Sanatan Dharma.
Suresh Chander working president VHP and Shakti Dutt Sharma its secretary, were present in the press conference.
