VHP seeks probe into purchase of relief packets

JAMMU, Sept 23: Accusing the State Government and its functionaries of making money out of miseries of the flood hit people, Leela Karan Sharma, State president of Vishav Hindu Parishad, has demanded a probe into the purchases made for distribution of relief among victims.
Talking to media persons, here today, he alleged that the rates quoted for supply of two lakh packets by the Special Commissioner Relief were exuberant and higher than the market rates.  “The Government should make clear before the public about the procedure adopted for the purchase and rates quoted,” he said adding that a committee should be formed to look into the matter.
The VHP leader also alleged that in a number of worst affected areas of Jammu region, no relief has been provided by the Government administration till date. “Team of VHP visited  Kotranka, Rajouri, Khwaas, Gunda, Dalheri and other areas where no Government official has visited the people for assessing damage to their properties,” he said and alleged that relief has not been provided in affected areas of Jammu region.
Hem Raj Khajuria, working president of VHP, Sham Lal Gupta, general secretary and Dr Joginder Pal were also present in the press conference.
