VHP warns against disbanding of VDCs

JAMMU, Aug 14: VHP will not allow disbanding of VDCs in the erstwhile Doda district and warned the Government to desist from the move as it will have serious consequences.
The State Government on the behest of separatist leader Syeed Ali Shah Geelani is planning to disband VDCs and VHP will not allow this to happen as VDCs have done a commendable job in combating terrorism and protecting the lives and properties of the people in the militancy interested areas of Jammu region, VHP State president Dr Rama Kant Dubey told reporters here today.
He said the VHP had extended bandh call by 24 hours that lasted till August 13 for the acceptance of the demands of violence hit minorities of Kishtwar. He said VHP today observed Akhand Bharat Sankalap Divas and tomorrow it will celebrate Independence Day with full enthusiam and fan fare.
He said the VHP will announce the future agitational programme for fulfillment of the other demands of violence hit people of Kishtwar on August 16. These included 100 percent compensation to traders, issuance of arms to them for self defense, withdrawal of JKP from Kishtwar and deployment of CRPF and Army there.
He also demanded immediate release of those who were arrested in the aftermath of Kishtwar violence on the Independence Day.
Strongly condemning the arrest of VHP general secretary Dr Sham Lal Gupta yesterday, he termed it highhandedness of the police and State administration. By such methods and tactics the Government can’t curb the voice of VHP, he added.
Dr Dubey also strongly condemned the arrest of Lt. Col Yoginder Khandhari by Police yesterday and demanded action against those police men who were responsible for harassing this ex army officer, tearing  his I Card and damaging his car.
He urged the DGP to take action against the police officer responsible for misbehaving with an ex army officer and inflicting injuries on him who had gone to consult the doctor on the basis of the complaint made by Lt Coal Khanhari to him today.
