JAMMU, Aug 10: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary and former MLC, Vibodh Gupta, strongly criticized former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Farooq Abdullah for perpetuating a false narrative regarding Maharaja Hari Singh’s stance on accession with India.
Vibodh’s comments came in response to Abdullah’s claim while speaking during a No-Confidence Motion that Maharaja Hari Singh wanted to remain independent.
“The Independence of India Act of 1947 provided only two options to the rulers: either join the dominion of India or Pakistan. There was no provision for an independent status. National Conference (NC) marketing a false narrative since 1948 to justify the betrayal of Sheikh Abdullah”, said Vibodh while addressing party workers after unfurling the flag at the residence of Shaheed Mohan Lal in Pouni Chak Wand Brahmana who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 war.
Vibodh emphasized that vilifying Maharaja Hari Singh equates to insulting the entire Jammu and Kashmir. He firmly demanded that Farooq Abdullah should issue an unconditional apology for tarnishing the legacy of the beloved Maharaja. He further underlined that the delay in Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India was a result of the conspiracies crafted by Nehru and power-hungry Sheikh Abdullah as they plotted to ouster our beloved Maharaj from his own State.
Describing Maharaja Hari Singh as a true nationalist for his significant role in India’s struggle for independence, Vibodh hailed him for his patriotic stance in the Round Table Conference. He stated, “We are determined to raise the Tiranga in every corner of J&K, including Gilgit, Baltistan, Aksai Chin, and other areas, all of which were integrated into Bharat through Maharaja Hari Singh’s final Instrument of Accession.”
Speaking on the occasion, district president, Parmod Kapahi said that BJP remains steadfast in its commitment to truth and to preserve the historical integrity of Jammu and Kashmir. He further said that it was an honour to unfurl the Tricolour at the home of Shaheed Mohan Lal and pay tribute to his sacrifice.
Other senior BJP leaders who spoke on the occasion were BJP JKUT secretary and Prabhari Jammu South Ayodhya Gupta, JKUT Training Department in charge Dr Parneesh Mahajan, Mandal Pradhan, Keshav Chopra Municipal Councillor, Satpal Karlupia, district general secretary Rajesh Gupta, etc.
