JAMMU, Mar 10: Newly elected Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Vibodh Gupta today met Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh and discussed the power scenario prevailing in the Rajouri and Poonch districts with him.
During the discussion, Vibodh apprised the Dy CM regarding the problems being faced by the people due to the increased power curtailments and overloading.
Vibodh highlighted that the people in these districts are living under the shadow of darkness for the past many years as there are 8-10 hours of scheduled and 4-6 hours of un-scheduled power cuts being imposed by the Power Development Department (PDD).
After listening to the problems and suggestions raised by the MLC, Nirmal Singh assured that he will look into the matter of upgrading the Thuddi receiving station from the existing capacity of 6.3 MVA to 10 MVA under the RADRP scheme which would further solve the electricity problems of Rajouri to a greater extent.
Vibodh also requested DyCM to order the Power Department to replace the existing conductors which are in very bad shape and are also posing a great threat to the lives of local residents of both the districts.
Keeping in mind the congested streets of the Rajouri, Vibodh apprised the DyCM to direct the officials to install cables and small transformers of 25 KVA and 63 KVA capacities so that the electricity could be supplied to each and every corner of Rajouri.
DyCM also assured the MLC that a full-fledged workshop for the repair and maintenance of transformers, conductors and other equipments would be made functional in the coming days which would further minimise the power related problems of both the districts.
