JAMMU, May 31: The Vigilance Organization Jammu has booked Police Sub-Inspector Mehmood Khan, then SHO Police Station Manjakote, on charges of corruption against him.
A case FIR Number 15/2018, under Section 5(1) (d), read with Section 5(2) J&K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt. 2006 was today registered against Sub-Inspector Mehmood Khan at Police Station VOJ, on the basis of verification conducted into the written complaint lodged by one Muneer Hussain, son of Panda Khan of village Dabrote, tehsil Manjakote, district Rajouri.
As per the complaint by Muneer Hussain, accused Mehmood Khan, as then SHO Police Station Manjakote, Rajouri, due to some old personal enmity, framed his son namely Mohd Tariq in a false and frivolous case FIR No. 77/2014 under Section 376 RPC registered at P/S Manjakote by instigating a local girl and using her as a tool against Mohd Tariq. The then SHO also demanded Rs. 3 lakh from complainant as illegal gratification for saving the life of his son. The complainant further alleged in his complaint that he could only manage Rs 2.70 lakh and handed it over to Mehmood Khan. But, even after the receipt of same, the said SHO presented challan against Mohd Tariq in the competent court. However during trial of the case, it was established that the police had registered a false FIR and no rape was committed by Mohd Tariq, who was acquitted by the court.
During verification, conducted by the Vigilance Organization, it was found that then SHO Mehmood Khan, by sheer abuse of his official position, implicated Mohd Tariq in false and frivolous case and later-on by corrupt means obtained illegal gratification of Rs 2,70,000 for himself from the complainant.
Accordingly, on the prima facie establishment of allegations, case has been registered at P/S VOJ and investigation is under progress.
