Vigilance seizes spurious ISM medicines

JAMMU, Sept 9: Vigilance Organization has seized spurious and sub-standard Ayurvedic/Unani medicines, which were recently procured and supplied to various Government dispensaries across Jammu province.
A Joint Surprise Check (JSC) was conducted by the sleuths of Vigilance Organization, Jammu, Samba and Kathua under the supervision of SSP Vigilance Shabir Ahmad Malik pursuant to inputs that Department of Indian System Medicines, has procured spurious and sub-standard Ayurvedic / Unani drugs and medicines from different companies with ulterior motives and against huge monetary considerations.
Most of the drugs, especially Prostratefort, natural herbal supplement and KaishoreGuggulu are said to be fully fungal infested and which are not fit for the human consumption as per the input received. The drugs were recently procured and supplied further to various Dispensaries and Units hurriedly across the Jammu province for its immediate utilization.
It is learnt that DG ISM, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar and the members of Approval Committee are actively involved in procuring of the spurious / sub-standard drugs and medicines, said a spokesman of the Vigilance Organization.
Three different teams of Vigilance Organization, each headed by a DySP, were deputed to each District for conducting Joint Surprise Check and for lifting the samples for expert analysis. During Joint Surprise Check, besides lifting of the samples of medicines, the relevant record has also been obtained in the presence of concerned officials of the said Department and Drug Inspector of Drugs and Food Control Organization J&K as well.
The team, headed by Dy SP Zulfqar Shaheen has lifted samples and record from Ayurvedic Dispensary of Parli Wand, Kathua Town, Ayush Unit of Kathua District and Ayurvedic Dispensary Hamirpur, Hiranagar, District Kathua and District Medical Officer Kathua.
Similarly, the team headed by Dy SP V.K. Bhat did the similar in Ayurvedic Dispensaries of Riyan, Nud, and District Hospital, Samba. The team, headed by Dy SP H.L. Pandita has lifted samples and record from Ayurvedic Dispensaries Bajalta, Surinsar, Aitham.
Further, Central Store, Indira Chowk, Jammu, was found locked despite prior intimation. The store has now been sealed through the Magistrate Ist Class for ascertaining the facts on re-opening of the same tomorrow by the investigating agency.
