Srinagar, May 6: The administration of Government Lal Ded Hospital here today said that they are ensuring proper vigilance to curb the practice of soliciting money from families whose women undergo childbirth in the hospital.
The authorities told Excelsior that not a single person, especially employees, demands money from families after a child is born, and that there is proper monitoring in place to ensure compliance.
“This hospital is a place filled with happiness, especially during childbirth, and there are instances where families give money out of joy on their own; we have prohibited even that practice,” said Dr. Muzaffar Jan, Medical Superintendent of Govt Lal Ded Hospital.
The hospital’s response follows a video posted on social media by a woman alleging that hospital employees “demanded money from her family in thousands.”
“She recorded the video without seeking information and it has been clearly put out with the intention of defaming the hospital administration; there is a proper network of CCTVs and security to ensure monitoring,” added Dr. Jan.
Hospital authorities also stated that they are considering legal action against the woman for disseminating “factually incorrect” information.
They further noted the presence of a control room operating round the clock for the swift resolution of complaints, and during daily morning rounds, attendants are questioned about any incidents of money solicitation during childbirth.
“Signboards have been placed at various areas in the hospital stating that both offering and accepting bribes in any form are punishable crimes, and whoever is found engaging in such behavior shall be punished according to the law,” they emphasized.
