JAMMU, Oct 21: The Vijeshwar Panchang (Almanac) for the year 2014-15 was released at a simple but impressive function here today. The function was organized by Vijeshwar Panchang Karyalya, Gole Gujral.
The Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, R K Pandita was the chief guest on the occasion while retired district and Session Judge B L Saraf and well known scholar of Kashmiri Shaivism O N Chrungoo were the guests of honour.
The function was presided over by Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri, editor of the Panchang. The function among others was attended by Jyotshi Bushan Lal Shastri and Jyotshi Avtar Krishan Shastri.
Speaking on the occasion, R K Pandita highlighted the role of Vijeshwar Panchang and said it is not an almanac only but a complete religious guide. He said its essence became more important after the mass exodus of Pandits from Valley as it kept them tied towards their culture and traditions despite being away from their mother land.
O N Chrungoo, while speaking on the occasion said that Vijeshwar Panchang has done a great service to the Kashmiri Pandit community for over three hundred years and it not only guided them about the religious festivals and rituals but also about the dharma.
B L Saraf expressed the hope that the Panchang will continue to keep its tradition and guide the coming generations as well. He said the Vijeshwar Panchang has become so popular among the community that the KPs living abroad also seek its copies from India to get information about religious festivals and other rituals being performed by the community from time to time.
Pt Omkar Nath Shastri while speaking on the occasion said the responsibilities over the publishers of Vijeshwar Panchang have increased after the mass exodus of the community manifold. He said it is the bounden duty of the Jyotshi Karyalya Gole Gujral to keep the community in exile tied to its culture and traditions and the Panchang is performing this responsibility to a great extent.
The vote of thanks was proposed by A K Jyotshi.
