Viki doesn’t’ like comparisons between Sushant and Aamir’s astronaut films

MUMBAI:  Actors Aamir Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput are set to play astronauts in their forthcoming projects, and producer Viki Rajani, who is backing the latter’s film, says there should not be comparisons between the two.

Sushant will be seen as an astronaut in “Chanda Mama Door Ke”, while Aamir will play real-life astronaut Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel in space, in a biopic.

Viki, who heads Next Gen Films, says the work on “Chanda Mama Door Ke” has been going on for the last seven years.

“We announced the film last year but my director has been working on it for the last seven years. Aamir Khan is a different ball game altogether… Nobody can compare anything with him.

“Like ‘Sultan’ (wrestling drama featuring Salman Khan) came first and then Aamir came with ‘Dangal’ and his film was way ahead. He is a legend,” Viki told PTI.

The producer says the makers are scouting for a female lead for the project, who will have a prominent part in it.

“There will be a female astronaut. We are talking to few top actresses but nothing is finalised yet,” he says.

Viki also denies that the film is getting shelved and says it will go on floors by September end.

“Our film is as big as ‘Baahubali’ in terms of VFX and its scale. It has got delayed by four-five months but doesn’t mean it has got shelved. There must be some reason for the delay like the production, it has seven big actors so it takes time to put everything together.”

The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and R Madhavan.

“I am lucky as all my actors are dying to do the film. And I am glad everybody has faith and trust in the director and producer. At the moment the prep work is on,” he says.

Without revealing details about the project, Viki says it is a very “Indian film at heart” film.

“It is like do or die for your country. It is basically the way we Indians look at the moon. Also it will have astronaut angle to it. It’s not a mythological film, it is a sci-f,” he says.

Directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, “Chanda Mama Door Ke” is scheduled to release next year. (AGENCIES)
