KATHUA, Mar 15: Accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making false promises with the people during 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Congress candidate from Kathua-Udhampur and Doda Lok Sabha seat and former MLC, Vikramaditya Singh today said the situation is quite different than 2014 at present as people want a change.
Talking to reporters after opening the Election Office of his party for Kathua -Doda, Lok Sabha Constituency here, he said Congress will fight the elections on the issues of unemployment, farmers’ unsettled grievances and issues being faced by the common man which BJP failed to fulfill during its last five years of rule.
He accused the BJP of making fake promises with the people during last elections as they were not fulfilled.
In response to a question that what will be the party’s stand on curbing militancy in the State, Vikramaditya said that without politicking the issue, the Congress will weed out terrorism from the State and also take a stand against Pakistan which is supporting terrorism.
He said Congress will extend full support to security forces in eliminating terrorism and restoration of the peace in the trouble -torn State.
In response to another question that why Congress did not take up the issue of holiday on the Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday the former ruler of the State during its rule in last 60 years and has remembered him now, the Congress leader said that during that time the people might have not considered the need of the same but now the youth feel that the same is needed and Maharaja’s birthday be declared a public holiday.
On pre-poll alliance with National Conference (NC), he said the decision will be taken by the Party High Command and they will see to it.
In response to another question that during BJP rule lot of development was done in Kathua and other parts of Constituency, the Congress candidate retorted saying no development was done any where and people want change.
The district president Congress and former Minister, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Ex MLC, Subash Gupta, Pankaj Dogra and others were present in the press conference.
Earlier Vikramaditya and other Congress leaders inaugurated election office of the party here. They later held rallies at Nagri and Karodh where the Congress leader highlighted the policies and programmes of his party and appealed the people to take the message of Congress to every corner of the Kathua district.
