JAMMU, Dec 16: Senior leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Vikramaditya Singh today called on Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss the modalities of the forthcoming Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayat elections in the State.
In a statement, issued here today, Vikramaditya Singh said that decision to hold elections to the local self Government was a big and bold initiative taken by the coalition regime. He said that coalition regime was committed to strengthen democratic institutions at grass-root level.
The MLC also met with Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, Minister for CAPD to jointly work out detailed tour programs and strategy. Vikramaditya then called upon Minister for Rural Development, Haq Nawaz Khan to discuss implementation of funds available at their disposal for rural development and planning for Panchayat elections. He had a meeting with Chowdhry Sukhnandan, Minister for PHE & Irrigation for resolving of drinking water issue at village Sandhi Sumbli (Sunjawan) affecting supply to 7 villages and about 500 families. Chief Engineer PHE was issued instructions on the spot to look into the matter on priority.
