Village Guards stage protest, raise demands

KATHUA, Mar 18: Village guards here today under the banner of Provincial Village Guards Union staged a protest demonstration and raised their demands.
The protest was led by Parshotam Lal, Union president.
The protesters demanded their regularization as Class-IV employees and hike in their remunerations at par with minimum wages as has been done in other States.
The protesters also demanded issuance of uniform cloth along with stitching charges, shoes, caps, belts, badges, torches, umbrellas and boxes for keeping their records safe and secure. They also demanded scrapping of SRO-413 and employment on compassionate grounds to one of the family members of village guard in case of his (village guard’s) death.
After the protest a deputation of these guards led by Kabla Singh, president of Low Paid Employees Federation, Kathua met DC and submitted a memorandum containing the demands of these guards.
The DC assured to forward the memorandum to higher authorities for early redressal.
