Village headman killed in Pulwama

Srinagar, July 1: Militants tonight shot dead a village headman of Wagum village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir and fired at an Army patrol in Tral area of the district.
Police said militants fired upon Mohammad Yousf Bhat, 43, village headman, of Wagum at around 9.30 pm when he was on way to a local Masjid for prayers.
Militants fired at him from close range and fled under the cover of darkness. He was left in a pool of blood and rushed to district hospital Pulwama where doctors declared him as brought dead.
Army, Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched the hunt to nab the militants responsible for the killing.
The killing comes after last month’s series of killings in North Kashmir in which 4 Hurriyat Conference activists and former militants were killed.
In the meantime, militants tonight fired at an Army patrol in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Reports said that a patrol party of 42 RR of Army was fired at Saimu Tral in South Kashmir and army returned the fire, however, militants fled under the cover of darkness.
The Army patrol saw three men moving at night in suspicious circumstances and asked them to stop but they fired at the Army and Army also fired but they fled under the cover of darkness.
Police and Army have cordoned off Saimu and Ratsuna village in Tral to trace out the militants responsible for the firing.
