POONCH, July 26: A villager was injured after he was attacked by a bear in Sawjian area of Mandi Sub Division today.
The victim has been identified as Mohd Yousuf, son of Ali Mohammed Hashu, resident of Gagrian village near Sawjian. The incident took place at around 8 am today when Mohd Yousuf was returning from `Dhok’ in higher reaches of Burari area in Sawjian. He grappled with the wild beast but sustained seriously injured all over his body. His face arms and legs were injured badly.
He was rescued by some villagers and then shifted to Mandi hospital. Later, he was referred to District Hospital, Poonch. He got nearly 60 stitches on his body.
The locals of Sawjian area said that this is the third such incident of attack by bear in the same area during last week. The Wild Life Department has failed to take cognizance of the matter, they alleged.
