UDHAMPUR, Aug 8: Demanding Degree College at Mongri, locals and students continued their protest for fourth consecutive day on Thursday.
As students are on protest, all schools in the area are closed since Monday and people are holding protest demonstration favors of their demand for Government Degree College in Mongri.
Holding a strong demonstration today, the protesting villagers raised slogans in support of their demand and claimed that a college for Tehsil Mongri was required for implementation of Government programme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’.
“There are five Higher Secondary Schools feeding the tehsil and Mongri is central place but only 5 to 15 percent students, especially girls purse the higher education due to non availability of Degree College here,” they explained and added that if a college is established in Mongri the poor girls can continue their higher education.
The villagers reminded that Principal Secretary Higher Education Department (HED), Alok Kumar, during his visit to Udhampur on August 2, had also assured that a Government Degree College would be sanctioned for Mongri.
