Villagers demand compensation for land under Army occupation

UDHAMPUR, July 12: Land owners have demanded compensation of the 958 kanals, 9 marlas land under occupation of Army at village Rehambal area for the last more than 73 years.
In this regard, the villagers submitted a memorandum to Indu Kanwal Chib, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.
Speaking to media persons, Rakesh Khajuria, former Additional Advocate General High Court of J&K and General Secretary, Farmers Action Committee, said that this land of 958 kanals, 9 marlas comprised under khewat No.59/57, Khata No.497/495 situated at village Rehmbal, Udhampur was taken for construction of accommodation of Indian Army troops, Ministry of Defense in the year 1947-48.
“The land was taken by the Army vide hiring No .KAS/S040/LH dated 21. 04. 1950 with the result our families had to shift their accommodation to other places. We are now approaching concerned authorities either to derequisition that said land or to acquire the same permanently and pay the compensation to the bonafide owners,” he added.
