Villagers detained at LoC

MENDHAR, Mar 21:  Sub Divisional Magistrate Mendhar, Ramesh Kumar had to intervene  after about a score of villagers were allegedly detained by an Army  unit at the fencing near the Line of Control (LoC) in Darana area of Mendhar tehsil in district Poonch this afternoon.
Reports said about 20 villagers including women, hailing from Basuni area located near the LoC on that side of fencing raised by Army were moving towards their homes.
At the Army gate at the fence, they were stopped by the Army soldiers at 4  pm onwards today and not allowed to move to their homes located on that side of the fencing in tehsil Mendhar.
The people remained detained there for about three hours and  then they contacted SDM Mendhar Ramesh Kumar.
The SDM then spoke to the Commanding Officer of the concerned Army unit and said that villagers have been issued valid identity cards and the jawans on duty after proper scrutiny should allow them to go to their homes. The detained villagers were then allowed to go to their homes.
