SAMBA, Aug 6: Villagers of Ramgarh today staged protest demonstration against the Power Development Department (PDD) over unscheduled power curtailments.
The protest was organised by the locals in which Apni Party Provincial President Jammu, Manjit Singh participated.
Manjit Singh, while speaking to the protesters said that the PDD has not been able to supply 24 hours electricity to the people which is contrary to the directions from the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
He said that the department concerned was approached many times against the curtailment of electricity in the hot and humid season but they failed to do so. “The lives of villagers have become miserable with the continuous power cuts, whereas the farmers are not able to operate their water pumps to water their fields,” he alleged.
He demanded that the electricity should be supplied properly as per the directions and not force people to come on the roads. “If the department continues the practice of curtailing the electricity, the people will be compelled to come on the roads against them,” he added.
Later, Executive Engineer of the PDD came to the protest site and assured that they will look into the issue.
