MENDHAR, Dec 30: Locals of village upper Mankote in Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch district held protest today over the non-availability of drinking water.
Reports said that local people from Mankote and nearby hamlets assembled in Mankote area and held protest over the non-availability of potable water, which according to them is an issue for the last many years.
Alleging the lackadaisical approach from PHE department, the locals said that despite bringing the issue to the notice of the concerned officials on many occasions, nothing significant has been done even after all these years.
Locals further alleged that the women of the area have to walk several kilometers and carry a gargle of water on their heads. They said that a water tank was also built in the village by the Jal Shakti Department, but that too has been lying in shambles for a long time.
Meanwhile, the locals have sought intervention from the office of Lt Governor Jammu and Kashmir in the matter. “We hope that Lt Governor will look into the matter to mitigate our sufferings, the locals said.
