UDHAMPUR, June 4: Up in arms against worst condition of the PMGSY road from Panchari to Danti, locals of village Summan in Panchari tehsil today protested against the PMGSY Department.
The protestors raised slogans against the PMGSY Department and appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to issue necessary instructions for completion of the road, work on which was started in 2006.
Work on this 14-km long Panchari to Danti road under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was started in 2006 and it had to be completed by 2007. However, after more than a decade, the road is still incomplete with the result that people are suffering, the villagers said and added that despite repeated complaints to the PMGSY Department Engineers and the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, the condition of the road was not improved.
“Condition of the road is so bad that sick or old persons can’t even walk on this while travelling for pregnant women on this road to reach the District Hospital Udhampur is risky because of big potholes and boulders here and there on this stretch,” the villagers said and added that during the rainy days, the children were not able to reach their school because of virtual closure of the road in case of bad weather.
The protesting villagers were addressed by Kailash Dutt, Sarpanch of Summan Panchyat; Panch Bittu Ram, Panch Bashir, Jeet Kumar, Kaka Ram, Yash Paul Singh, Shankar Singh, Mast Ram, Ashok Kumar and Baldev Chand.
