UDHAMPUR, June 13: Aggrieved over the extremely slow pace of work on Nagulta to Razar PMGSY road in Chenani, local villagers today protested against the district administration and PMGSY Department.
Shouting slogans, the villagers were demanding immediate completion of the construction and black topping of the road.
The protest was held at village Nagulta by the locals namely Pawan Kumar Sarpanch, Subash Chander, Bag Chand, Parshotam Chand Panch, Hans Raj Panch , Kaka Ram, Akther Panch, Parkash Chand Panch, Parveen Akther Panch and others.
The protesting villagers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to issue necessary instructions to concerned authorities for early construction of the road so that people may not suffer.
“Even as the work number JK14-272 on 11 kms long Nagulta to Razar road with a cost of Rs 498.62 lakhs was started in 2006, work on culverts and retaining wall was not taken up till date while the black topping on patches also got washed away because of poor quality,” they said and demanded investigation into delay as well as poor quality work.
“Due to the unprecedented delay in completion of the work, locals are suffering. Pregnant women, elderly people and students are facing manifold problems,” the villagers further said and warned that if the road work is not completed as early as possible, they will launch series of protests.
