Villagers protest for construction of road

Protesting villagers trying to break barrier near NHPC office on Thursday.

REASI, July 4: Agitated over dilapidated condition of Talwara to Chankha road, which is under NHPC, a large number of adjoining villagers held a strong protest demonstration and blocked Jyotipuram to Dhyangarh road for around six hours.
The protesting villagers were raising slogans against NHPC as well as the local administration and demanding construction of the road. Police also had to use mild force for disperse off the protesters.
Reports said that a large number of people from villages Thanpal, Sailanjan, Dharan, Salal and Talwara assembled outside the premises of the office of NHPC Salal Project and started a protest demonstration there. They rued that Talwara to Chankha road was not being repaired by NHPC despite its worst condition. As GM of NHPC was out of station and no one from civil administration reached the spot to pacify the agitators, the villagers blocked the road and also damaged the NHPC barrier.
Around 2 p.m. Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi reached the spot along with SHO Reasi and managed to pacify the villagers and lift the dharna. Police also had to use mild force in dispersing off the protesters.
