UDHAMPUR, Oct 2: Aggrieved over the extremely bad condition of Gujad to Cheardi road, local villagers today protested against the PMGSY department and the district administration Udhampur.
Shouting slogans, the villagers were demanding immediate repair and black topping the road. They were also demanding high level enquiry against the contractor.
The protest was held at Chenani, under the leadership of Sarpanch Radhey Shyam, Mahinder Pal, Subash Singh, Bhartiy Janta Party leaders Naresh Kumar, Kamlesh Kumar, Sansar Singh and others.
The protesting villagers appealed to the Lieutenant Governor, Jammu and Kashmir (UT) Manoj Sinha to issue necessary instructions to concerned authorities for repair of the road so that people may not suffer.
Due to the worst condition and big potholes on this 17- km long road (PMGSY number JK14-276) from Gujad to Cheardi, connecting with Cheradi, Kithar another village, people of the area are virtually without road connectivity.
“Operators do not ply minibuses and buses on this route with the result locals, particularly pregnant women, elderly people and students face manifold problems,” said the villagers, adding that the department was informed about the matter various times but till date no action was taken.
