Srinagar,  Mar 4: In an embarrassment to the Power Development Department (PDD), the residents of Loswani Newa in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district returned electric wires and poles to PDD after its failure to repair the damaged transformer.
Hundreds of people took to the roads and staged massive protest against PDD for failing to repair the damaged transformers of the village.
Fed up with Government attitude towards their genuine demands, the villages uprooted the electric poles and piled them and wires on the main road and blocked the traffic for hours.
Reports said that later on the villages including women staged massive protests against PDD and informed the concerned officials of PDD to come to the village and gather this property of PDD.
The residents, including the students, shopkeepers and traders, alleged that apart from frequent, long and unscheduled power cuts, once a transformer is damaged it takes PDD officials weeks together to repair it and install in the village.
The residents said they have decided to end this menace once for all and will arrange alternate means for their village. They have also decided not to pay the power bills in future.
