Villagers stage protest against power failure

MENDHAR, Dec 20:  The villagers from Gohi-Langiot, Dassal and Bera in tehsil Mendhar held strong protest demonstration against the power failure outside the office of PDD here today.
A large number of people from these border villagers led by Sarpanch Nazir Hussain and another Gujjar leader Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal came to Mendhar town and took out a protest rally. They were raising slogans against the NC-led Government, PDD Minister, Chief Engineer PDD (M&RE) Jammu and Executive Engineer concerned.
These villagers assembled outside the PDD Sub-Division, Mendhar and started strong protest demonstration. They alleged that PDD staff of the area has failed to restore power to these areas even after one month. Two transformers got damaged and despite repeated requests, the AEE and AE concerned failed to act and get the power supply restored in this border belt. The people have been left to suffer while concerned field staff is least bothered about their miseries. They said at several places poles were uprooted and they were not erected. Live wires were fixed with the help of trees, which is great risk to the lives of the animals.
Later, concerned officials assured them to restore power shortly. The village Sarpanch and Panchs gave ultimatum to the PDD authorities Mendhar up to January 1, failing which they will intensify their struggle. They also moved to the office of SDM and submitted a memorandum projecting demand.
