The inhabitants of the area who called on Jammu Municipal Corporation, (JMC), Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta highlighted their plight before him and sought his immediate intervention in the matter to redress this grave issue said ignoring the problem for a long time can lead to spread of epidemic in the entire area and the authorities will be responsible for the same.
The residents said that on one hand tall claims are being made to convert the Jammu into a Smart City and on the other hand the basic problems of insanitation are not being tackled by the authorities of concerned departments exposing the people to a grave risk and health hazards.
They said that earlier the matter was taken up with the Corporator, Suraj Parkash Padha who also sought the intervention of JMC authorities in settling the long standing problem leading to insanitation in the area.
Even the Sewerage and Drainage Department was also approached in this regard a number of times but to no avail. MP Jugal Kishore Sharma after being approached by the residents also wrote a letter to Chief Engineer, UEED urging him that immediate attention be paid towards the problem but to no avail. The residents said that owner of a plot has constructed a concrete wall along his plot due to which entire stagnated water flows through the lane causing a public nuisance.
