VIP security

Sir,
This is apropos the strictures passed by the apex court over the heavy VIP security in the country. The jury has rightly vented their deep concern on the staggering amount being squandered away on this score from the genuine tax payers’ contribution in the public fund.
They have also pointedly commented that the VIP security is being projected not only as a status symbol but also as a power symbol to influence and dominate their peers. Th politicians assertively proclaim time in and time out that we are living in the largest democratic country in the world and democracy stands for public participation, public involvement and holistic trust, fearlessness of the leaders who are born out of the democratic set up.
The leaders, who are democratically elected through the process of free and fair elections, perform their duty impartially and without prejudices should have no semblance of threat perception. When your attitude and approach is positive, virtuous and impartial and your actions do reflect righteousness, where is the need for security cover at the cost of poor man’s pocket?
It will be therefore a great service to the nation if all VIPs respond and come forward to relinquish their security cover on their own motivation. The money saved shall be pooled for rehabilitation of people below poverty line who are victims of malnutrition, have no night shelters and for providing protection to the common man, working women and all others who need it most.
The privilege class need to drift apart from the colonial legacy and merge into the existence of hapless common man. With this paradigm shift, the scenario will change upside down.
Yours etc….
