JAMMU, Nov 18: Union Ministry of Finance has ordered promotion of 1985 batch IRS officer Virendra Singh as Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Pr CCIT) with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post.
As per the order bearing No 238 of 2019 issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Virendra Singh, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Delhi, has been promoted as Principal CCIT. His jurisdiction will be over Bihar and Jharkhand.
Virendra Singh has served as Commissioner of Income Tax J&K from June 2005 to July 2009 and during his tenure in J&K the income tax collection increased remarkably from Rs 150 crore to Rs 751 crore annually which was amongst the highest growth rate in the country.
Due to the efforts of Virendra Singh, there was strict compliance to the provisions of the Income Tax Act by cross section of society in Jammu and Kashmir. Even habitual tax evaders and those who were having political links came forward to pay taxes honestly.
Even he ensured prompt disposal of grievances of tax payers by the officers of the department both in Jammu and Srinagar, which received wide-spread appreciation and people still remember the services rendered by Virendra Singh.
