JAMMU, Nov 4: Vishwakarma Day was celebrated today with religious and traditional fervour as workers in different institutions, trade unions and individuals organized separate functions for worshipping Bhagwan Vishwakarma and tools being used by them.
The Engineering wing of Directorate of Health Service, Jammu celebrated the day by organizing a programme in the Directorate complex. After Pooja of lord Vishwakarma, a langar was also served.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Health Dr Baljeet Singh Pathania and Director Family Welfare Dr Baldev R Sharma threw light on relevance of the day and engineering miracles of lord Vishwakarma.
Others who spoke, included Sushil Sudan, president of JKMEF, Vinod Kumar, Sharma, Dharminder Sharma, C L Koul, Anil Kesar, Vijay Sharma, Anoop Singh, Kamaljeet Sawhney, Munish Sharma, Dheeraj Singh, Dr Anil Amla, Dr V P Sharma and Dr Shamim Mir.
The officers and workers of Agriculture  Department celebrated the day by organizing functions at Seed Processing Unit, Seed Multiplication Farm (SMF), Chinore, SMF Chakrohi and Government Agriculture Workshop, Talab Tillo  Jammu. On this occasion worship of tools and machines with special prayer for safety of the operators and workers was done.
After the function, Director Agriculture Ajay Khajuria along with team of officers had a round of workshop and inspected the various newly installed machines.
Agriculture Research Engineer, Devinder Sharma, Joint Director (Inputs), Jammu, Susheel Sawhney, Agronomist Vegetable, Jammu,  Sunil Koul, C  M  Sharma, Deputy Director (Central) Jammu,  Kuldip Dhar, SMS (Engg),  B  M  Rana, SMS, Uttam Sharma, president All J&K, Agriculture Employees Association, Jammu also attended the programme.
State unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) celebrate the day by organizing  a function under the chairmanship of its president Shiv Kumar Sharma at PHE Workshop Kunjwani.
After performing pooja of lord Vishwakarma with traditional fervour, Shiv Kumar Sharma highlighted some issues and demands of the workers. Others who spoke, included Fareed Ahmad, Ashok Singh Choudhary, A N Wazir, O P Gupta, Padam Suri, M S Khorana and Dilbahadur Singh.
In Jammu University, the Vishwakarma Day was celebrated today in General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex where  the JU technical staff paid obeisance to lord Vishwakarma and performed Puja to seek  blessings of the God of Engineers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr  D  L  Choudhary threw light on lord Vishwakarma and explained the significance of the day especially for the working class.
The  day was celebrated with full religious gaiety and  fervour at Vishwakarma Temple New Plots Jammu where Kuldeep Verma, VC OBC Board (MoS) was guest of honour. Community magazine “JK Vishwakarma Jagat 2013” was also released   on the occasion.
Various speakers including, Principal Ram Lal,  R C Angotra, R L Chargotra, Ravi Verma, Joginder Andotra, Charanjit Chargotra, Balwant Kataria  and others threw light on the importance of Vishwakarma Pooja. They also demanded Gazetted Holiday on Vishwakarma Day.
Vishwa Ayurved Parishad organized Dhanwantri Jayanti in Jammu Institute of Ayurveda & Research (JIAR).
Students, Staff, faculty members  and executive members of Vishwa Ayurved Parishad (VAP)  participated in Dhanwantri Puja and Havan.  After the Puja, an interaction session was held with the students. Dr Gobind Ram, president of VAP informed  that a series of lectures will be held in various social organizations working for the  physically handicapped wherein the patients will  be examined and provided free of cost treatment.
Besides this, he added many schools will be visited for health check up of children.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr  Roop Lal Sharma- Chairman of Jammu Institute of Ayurveda & Research highlighted  various activities of the institution.
Others who attended the programme, included Dr Kulwant Singh- Director, Dr Shabir Mattoo, Dr Ashok Jalla, Dr Nitin Mahajan and all faculty members of JIAR.
Committee of Hanuman Mandir Moti Bazar, shop keepers and locals arranged a langar on the eve of Hanuman Jayanti and Vishwakarma Day. People from different walks of life and religions participated in the programme.
In Udhampur, the Vishwakarma Day was celebrated by  Mazdoor Dastkar Union in collaboration with Vishwakarma Prabandak Committee. In this connection,  a Shoba Yatra was taken out from Vishwakarma Temple.
