Srinagar, Oct 15: An indigenously-built vistadome (glass-top) train is likely to run in Kashmir between Budgam and Banihal from this week.
A senior Railway official told Excelsior that the proposal has been sent to the Railway Ministry and they are expecting the nod. He said that the train has already been tested earlier this year and they are ready for its run.
“All arrangements have been finalised regarding the service. We are just waiting for the final directions from the Ministry,” he said.
The special train, which will make stops at key locations including Srinagar, Awantipora, Anantnag, Qazigund and Banihal, is expected to significantly enhance the region’s connectivity and ease the travel burdens of local residents.
One of the standout features of this new service is the inclusion of an air-conditioned chair car coach, ensuring that passengers can enjoy a comfortable and luxurious journey.
The see-through air-conditioned coach with large glass windows, glass roof, observation lounge and rotatable seats, a first such service in Jammu and Kashmir, aims to facilitate passengers to experience the breathtakingly beautiful locations between Banihal to Budgam. The train will cover the distance of 110 kms in 90 minutes.
Keeping tourists in mind the seats are attached with trays similar to those in airplanes for eating and passengers can order light meals to be made available during the journey.
