JAMMU, Jan 5: Doda Visthapit Samiti organized a Shradanjali Sabha at Belichrana near hear and paid homage to the 1996 martyrs of Barshalla.
People hailing from various places Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda putting up at Doda Basti here came in large numbers to pay homage to the martyrs of Barshalla in Doda district. Many people from erstwhile Doda district are residing at Jammu as displaced persons after militant killings in nineties in the erstwhile district Doda.
It may be recalled 16 Hindus of Barshalla in Doda district were martyred on this day by militants in 1996.
After paying the homage to the martyrs displaced persons , pledged to go back to their erstwhile homes and demanded that first of all UT Government and Central Government should come forward with special package for them.
Displaced persons asked the Government to remove the encroachments from their lands which have been occupied by the locals in their ancestral villages.
Representatives of Doda Visthapit Sewa Samiti, Anil Kumar, Diler Singh, Ranjit Singh along with Koushal Sharma, Ashraf Shah, Manzoor Hussain were present at this moment.
It is worthwhile to mention that on January 5th,1996 the terrorists of the Harkat Ul Ansar organization massacred 16 Hindus in one go in the village. At that time people were watching a television program in a residential house. Those who were martyred were Hansraj Sharma, Som Dutt Sharma, Jagdish Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, Manohar Lal, Shashi Raj, Sunil Kumar, Shiv Kumar, Shashi Pal, Krishan Dutt, Rajinder Kumar, Swami Raj, Ajay Kumar and Bhushan Kumar
