Five-day painters & Sculptors camp inaugurated at Jammu’s tourist spot

JAMMU, June 13: Embellishment of the salubrious Bagh-e- Bahu in form of art works such as monumental sculptures and installations can further add to the overall aesthetic ambiance of one of the prime tourist spots of Jammu, was the opinion expressed by the leading local visual artists during the inaugural function of the five-day Sculptors and Painters Camp, here today.
The artist’s camp being held in memory of Gobind Kaur, the well known sculptor of the State and organized by Aspiring Artists Group (AAG) in collaboration with Department of Floriculture was inaugurated by K K Sharma, Director, Department of Floriculture.
In his address K K Sharma, said that the five day artist camp will act as added attraction for the visitors who can see the artists at work. He also gave an overview of the developmental works being undertaken in Bagh-e-Bahu.
Speaking on the occasion the participating senior artists such as T S Batra, Ex Principal, Institute of Music and Fine Arts (IMFA), Vijay Saraf, Dean and Principal, IMFA, University of Jammu and Rajendar Tiku, eminent sculptor, while praising the initiative of young artists also appreciated the step taken by Department of Floriculture for organizing such a camp at Bagh-e Bahu, the public spot which is visited by thousands of tourists along with Jammuites as well as citizens from other parts of the State.
They also paid tributes to Gobind Kaur, the first women sculptor of the State and a fine human being, who not only made name in country for her creations in stone, bronze and woodcuts but also inspired generations of young art students in the role as an artist/ teacher at IMFA.
Earlier welcoming the guests Aamrjeet Singh, general secretary AAG, highlighted the role of the group that has been active in promoting the visual arts and artists of the State.
He said the camp was an important event as it has brought together leading artists along with young talent of the State.
The other participants of the camp include seniors artists like Gokul Dembi, Ravinder Singh Jamwal, Amrik Singh Namdhari, Jang S Verman and young visual artists like Sudhir Kamal, Arjinder Kumar, Naresh, Chander Shekhar, Jasleen Singh, Varun Kumar, Narinder Kumar, Chemat Dorjey, Amarjeet Singh, Aneesh Tiku and Parveen.
The organizers of the camp informed that works created during the artists’ camp would be exhibited at the Kala Kendra, Jammu and Katra.
