JAMMU, Sept 13: Vivekananda Kendra, Central University of Jammu unit, celebrated ‘World Brotherhood Day’ on Tuesday by organizing a Declamation Contest on topics like thoughts of Swami Vivekananda in New Education Policy, Self-Reliant India, Science and Spirituality, Social Harmony and significance of his speech in Chicago in contemporary times.
The inaugural session was attended by Prof Rasal Singh, Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Dr Ritu Bakhshi, Cultural Officer and judges of the event Dr Vandna Sharma, Dr Vishal Pathania and Dr Naresh Sharma.
In the inaugural address, Prof Rasal Singh emphasized on the contribution of Swami Vivekananda towards Mother India. He highlighted his contribution in changing the narrative about India among Western nations from land of snake charmers to culturally and spiritually rich nation.
In the event, students from almost all the departments participated in the Declamation Contest and shared their views on various topics. The prize distribution ceremony was blessed by chief guest Dr Yashwant Singh, Registrar CUJ; Chief Speaker Dr Vikrant Sharma, Prant-Karyavah, J&K Prant, RSS; Prof Rasal Singh and Dr Anamika Khajuria, retired Scientist from CSIR.
The Coordinator of Vivekananda Kendra, CUJ unit, Vishal Sharma gave the information on history and various activities of Vivekananda Kendra.
A Dogri translation of the book entitled ” Jarurat Vaigyanik Adhyatmvad Di Batte Pe Chalne Di” based upon Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy and
originally written by Shashank Kulkarni, Research Scholar, Department of Public Policy and Administration, CUJ and translated by Dr Ratan Basotra, Editor of Dogri, JK Cultural Academy, was also released by the chief guest and other dignitaries.
While addressing the gathering, the chief speaker Dr Sharma emphasized on the life of Swami Vivekananda and relevance of his thoughts for the youth of India and the world irrespective of their caste or religion. He quoted the basic philosophy of Sanatan Dharma ‘Vasudev Kutumbakam’. He also emphasized on the integration of knowledge, science and spirituality.
Mir Bilal, Ayush Anand and Taqqiyah Tasmeen secured the first, second and third position respectively.
