KATRA, Sept 30: Viraj Kala Kendra-Jammu staged Dogri play “Shah Shahni ” in the ongoing Navratra Festival, organised by the Directorate of Tourism, here today.
The play was based on the theme of agony and pain of the two lovers based on the partition of India. They met at a point at the last days of their lives only to express their feelings for each other but it even aggravated their pain and sorrow which meant they had to fall apart from each other.
The play was beautifully written by Rajneesh Gupta with colloquial use of Dogri idioms and phrases. All the artists did well on the stage which compelled the audience to watch the play with utter silence.
The character of Shah was ably played by Rajneesh Gupta who also directed the play. Shahni was played nicely by Meera Tapasvi. Veteran artist of Jammu and Kashmir Madan Rangila played the character of Kasturi confectioner; Amit Bhalla played the comic character of Ghara, servant of Kasturi. Rekha Sharma aptly played Chanchlo, a neighbour of Shahni, Tarun Charak and Rishab Manhas played the characters of Pakistani youth in a decent manner.
Shammi Dameer did the makeup of artists, while Pawan Verma arranged the costumes and Tarun Charak handled the music score. Overall it was a major success and all artists were praised for their hard work.
