Local purchases and procurement was aimed at bolstering relief and revival of the business sector hit by the unimaginable rigours of COVID-19 pandemic like across the country which should, therefore, be encouraged. It was in line with the principle of ”Vocal for Local”. The other face of this principle, needless to add, was ”Make in India” which too needs to be encouraged increasingly. Since these were pre-requisites for self reliance, the UT Government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to allow local purchases in GeM thereby giving a push to supply chains and marketability of goods and services which are provided by the local units individually or otherwise.
Local entrepreneurs, suppliers, manufacturers and the like were, as such, going to be benefitted for which awareness exercise was necessary to be undertaken by the Government. The Lieutenant Governor has taken keen interest in such promotion of local purchases for which a committee has been constituted to analyse the problems and recommending measures so as to ensure relief and revival of the business sector in Jammu and Kashmir in tune with the demands from this sector for the last many years. However, reasonability of rates, purity and quality of standard had to be given due weightage.
