Vocational training programme begins at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Nov 22: A vocational training programme on “High throughput analytical techniques for phytonutrient profiling”, sponsored by NAHEP-IDP, ICAR New Delhi, commenced at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu
The training programme was inaugurated by Prof S K Gupta, Director Extension and officiating Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu at School of Biotechnology.
The training is being attended by students from different faculties viz., Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Horticulture & Agroforestry and School of Biotechnology of the University.
While inaugurating the training programme, Prof Gupta highlighted the importance and potential of basic as well as advanced techniques in the field of phytonutrient analysis. He also highlighted that the major objective of the training programme should be provide hands-on-training the young buds for generating skilled mind-set.
On this occasion, Prof Gupta and other dignitaries also released laboratory manual of the training programme.
The inaugural session was also attended by Prof S E H Rizvi, Director Education and Dean, FoBS, SKUAST-Jammu; Prof R Peshin, officiating Dean, FoA, SKUAST-Jammu; Prof R K Salgotra, Coordinator, School of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu and faculty members of School of Biotechnology.
Dr G K Rai, Coordinator of the training program informed that the trainees will be updated with the latest techniques and their applications in phytonutrient analysis. He further informed that contents of the training have been framed to impart latest knowledge and hands-on-experience by eminent experts in biochemistry and molecular biology.
The inaugural programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Susheel Sharma, the Co-coordinator of the training programme.
