JAMMU, July 1: Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers awarded scholarships and certificates to over 200 meritorious students from the Jammu region.
As part of its Vodafone Delights initiative in J&K, Vodafone had announced the 3rd edition of its Scholarship Programme in J&K in May 2015, inviting entries from class 10th and Class 12th students who met the scholarship criteria.
Today, it awarded the scholarships to over 200 students from Jammu region, who achieved a perfect 10 CGPA score in the CBSE Class 10 exams or scored 90 per cent and above marks in the J&K State Education Board and CBSE Class 10th and 12th exams for the academic year 2014-15.
Pushpinder Singh Gujral, Business Head, Punjab, HP and J&K, Vodafone India said, “Through the Scholarship Programme, we have tried to nurture academic excellence among students in J&K and encourage them to strive harder to achieve their dreams. It gives us great joy to be a partner in the growth and development of these students”.
He stated that this year, for the first time, the scholarships were disbursed through ‘M-Pesa’, Vodafone’s world renowned mobile wallet and money transfer service.
To disburse the scholarships through M-Pesa, Vodafone activated the M-Pesa service on the mobile phones of the parents of the scholarship winning students for free at the prize-distribution ceremony, with the company bearing the activation cost.
Vodafone also organised fun games, photo booth and motivational talks to make the Scholarship Programme prize-distribution ceremony a fun, learning and rewarding experience for the students.
