Vohra appointed CUJ Chancellor

JAMMU, Aug 24: President Pranab Mukherjee in his capacity as the Visitor of the Central University of Jammu, has appointed Governor NN Vohra as the first Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, for a period of five years.
After a notable academic career, Vohra served as a Lecturer in English in Punjab for two years before joining the Indian Administrative Service. During his administrative career (1959-1994), he held various important positions under the State and Central Governments. He served as the Punjab Home Secretary during a very difficult period post Operation Blue Star. With the Government of India, he served as Secretary Defence Production, Defence Secretary and Home Secretary. After retirement he was recalled to serve as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister I.K. Gujral.
Mr Vohra had taken over as 12th Governor of the State in June 2008.
“His vast experience and advice will be immensely beneficial to the University which came into being only last year and is in the process of establishing itself”, added Dr. S.S. Bloeria, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu.
