Voluntarily retired SRTC workers stage protest

JAMMU, Apr 25: A large number of voluntarily retired J&K State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) workers held protest demonstration outside the Exhibition Ground near old Tawi bridge here today.
The VRS given transport workers under the banner of All J&K SRTC Volunteer Retirement Employees Association assembled at the Exhibition Ground near Press Club here in the morning, under the leadership of Dev Raj Bali and held protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the Management of the SRTC and the State Government. They were also projecting their demands. After staging protest for some time, raising placards, the protesters then sat on day long dharna.
Several senior members of the Association addressed the gathering and criticized the management for not releasing their pending dues including 126 slabs of COLA with effect from January 1st, 2006. They said more than 700 workers who were given VRS are struggling for the last three years now, are being deprived off their pending hard earned wages. Even these workers have not been provided 6th Pay Commission benefits for which they are fully entitled as per law. They described it as grave human rights violation.
They alleged that their four colleagues on struggle for the last three years due to shock are now on bed while some are ailing and need adequate treatment. They condemned the attitude of the management and warned to launch fast unto death if their demands were not addressed. Some of the speakers included Dev Raj Bali, D N Sharma, Prem Nath, Surjit Singh, Mohd Sharief, Asan Elahi and Javed Iqbal.
