Vomedh organises Mandali programme at SSK

JAMMU, Apr 27: Vomedh Rangmanch today organised, ‘Mandali’, the ancient tradition of Kashmiri group singing, at Sanjeevni Sharda Kendra (SSK), Anand Nagar Bohri near, here as part of its ongoing programmes for the revival of traditional and ancient Kashmiri Pandit folklores, Bhajans, art, culture and languages.
The ‘Mandali’ programme was sponsored by Ministry of Culture, Government of India (BTI Section) under Training in Traditional Folk Art, approved under the scheme of Preservation and Development of Cultural Heritage of Himalayas.
Renowned Kashmiri author and an expert of literature, Dr Agnishekhar was the chief guest on the occasion while spiritual Guru, Swami Kumar Jib was the guest of honour.
The ‘Mandali’ (Kashmiri Group Singing) was performed by prominent performers of the community Shanty Lal Sidh, BL Bhat Sharnagath, Rajesh Khar and Dr Ramesh Nirash.
The prominent people who were honoured by Vomedh for their contribution towards Kashmiri Pandit art, culture and languages by presenting mementoes, shawls and bouquets included famous poet PN Shad, social activist, Aryan Ramesh, and four other performer groups.
Dr Agnishekhar spoke at length about the rich cultural traditions of Kashmiri Pandits and the ancient forms of art, culture and languages and gave a detailed account of rich ancient art forms of Kashmir while Swami Kumar Ji blessed the gathering by his spiritual discourse.
Dr Agnishekhar said Vemedh particularly its president Rohit Bhat has always taken the lead to propagate the revival of age-old Kashmiri rituals and the legacy left behind by the ancestors adding such steps would go a long way to revive the lost rituals and culture of ancient Kashmir.
AK Naaz spoke dealt at length about the importance of preserving the rich cultural traditions and rituals of the community so that they can be passed on to the next generation.
Senior Kashmiri Pandit leader, M K Yogi was also present on the occasion. Other prominent personalities who attended the function included Dr Kshema Koul and Promila Koul.
The welcome address was made by Bharati Kaul and King C Bharati read the vote of thanks.
The programme was hosted by prominent anchor and actor Kusum Tickoo.
