Voters displaying their resolve to strengthen democracy: BJP

JAMMU, Nov 28: BJP State spokesman, Balbir Ram Rattan today said that the turn out of voters in large numbers in the Panchayat polls is a slap on the regional political parties, which termed the earlier concluded ULB elections as sham.
In a statement issued here, today, he said the official figures related to the poling in ongoing Panchayat elections in the State are themselves proof of the mindset of the voters, who are totally refusing to follow the boycott call by NC and PDP and rather contributing in taking the democracy to the grass roots level.
While terming the massive voting in Panchayat elections as victory of democracy, Balbir said this reflects the firm desire of the people not to get misled by opportunist political parties.
Balbir, while quoting the official figures, said that out of total 9 phases, elections of four phases have been completed and that the voters have displayed their resolve to strengthen democracy. He said that in Phase-I, polling in the State had been 74.1%, in Phase-II, it was 71.1%, in Phase-III, 75.2% and in Phase-IV 71.3% of voters came out to exercise their right to franchise in Panchayat polls. This proves beyond any doubt that people across the State are least bothered for the poll boycott and defeated game plan of those parties which, in the past, always exploited the voters.
He further said that the credit for peaceful conduct of elections also goes to the Government, which made adequate security arrangements and induced a sense of security among the voters who went out to cast their votes.
