SIRSA (Haryana), Dec 21: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and a host of other leaders paid their last respects to former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala at the Teja Khera village here on Saturday.
A prominent Jat leader and five-time chief minister of Haryana, Chautala died in Gurugram on Friday at the age of 89.
A state funeral will be held late afternoon in the village.
On Saturday morning, people paid their last respects to the Chautala at the family’s Teja Khera farmhouse. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief’s body was wrapped in the Tricolour and decked with garlands.
Vice President Dhankhar, who was in Chandigarh to attend an event at the Panjab University, reached Sirsa along with his wife, Sudesh Dhankhar, in the afternoon.
Former Punjab deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal also reached Teja Khera village.
Om Prakash Chautala’s younger son Abhay Singh Chautala, an INLD leader, elder son and JJP chief Ajay Singh Chautala and other family members, including former deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, were present there.
Congress leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala and Kumari Selja reached the Chautala farmhouse earlier in the day to pay their last respects. Common people have gathered in the village in large numbers as well for the cremation.
The Haryana Government declared a three-day state mourning on Friday. It has also declared Saturday a public holiday in all its offices. (PTI)
