NEW DELHI: Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari today impressed upon the young NCC cadets to contribute towards ‘nation building’ and make the best of their training to empower the country as better citizens. Speaking after inaugurating the National Cadet Corps Republic Day Camp 2016 at the Garrison Parade Ground, Dr Ansari told NCC cadets to be a responsible citizen and thereby further empower the country by bringing a positive social change.
The Vice-President took the salute of the marching contingent and later addressed them. Mr Ansari also visited the flag area where the young cadets briefed him on the social themes displayed in the flag areas prepared by them. Over 2000 cadets including 695 girl cadets drawn from 17 NCC Directorates covering all the states and union territories of the country are participating in the camp.
The aim of the Republic Day Camp, that portrays a reflection of ‘Mini India’, is to provide the cadets an exposure to the rich culture and traditions of our nation and the important events that take place in the National Capital during the run up for Republic Day.
The camp also projects to the nation the cherished ideals and capabilities of the cadets. Incidentally, many of the present cabinet members, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of Parliament and current three service chiefs had been a NCC cadet.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan are among many VVIPs who were also part of this corps. On first International Yoga Day, June 21 last year, the Corps bagged a place in Limca Book of Records when 9,50,210 NCC cadets simultaneously performed yoga at various venues across the country.
