JAMMU, May 5: All J&K Transporters Welfare Association has urged the UT Government to withdrawn heavy green tax imposed on the buses and mini-buses by the Transport authorities.
Talking to media persons here today, Vijay Singh Chib, president of the Association extended gratitude to the LG’s administration for giving 50 % relaxation in Passenger tax and resolving other issues related to age of vehicles, GPS etc of the transporters.
He pointed out that Transport authorities have imposed Rs 7000 to Rs 8000 as Green Tax on Mini-buses and Rs 12000 to Rs 13000 on buses which is really unaffordable and heavy burden on the transport operators. He demanded that this Green tax be withdrawn as it is unbearable by the transporters.
Chib further clarified that buses mostly operate in rural area for 25 years and cover only a small area of cities. A committee has also been framed in this regard. Due to fuel price hike the transport industry is already facing crisis. The Government must maintain the balance and frame some norms with regard to providing some relief to the transporters, Chib added.
