JAMMU, Feb 19: With an aim to generate greater awareness among youth about electoral systems and to encourage eligible voters for polling under ‘Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), Sub Divisional Magistrate Akhnoor, Girish Dayalan today launched a Campaign and YUVA Show (Youth Unite for Voter Awareness) at Government Degree College Akhnoor.
ACD, Jammu, K.K. Sidha, Deputy Director Information, Jyoti Slathia, Tehsildar Akhnoor, Station Head 92.7 Big FM, Ali Jaffri besides faculty members, representatives from HDFC, J&K Banks and students were present on the occassion
Speaking on the occasion, SDM said election is the base of democracy and voter has the ultimate power to shape the destiny of country by electing representative of their own choice. He asked the youth to exercise their franchise for strengthening democracy. He said that facilities like online registration, khidmat centres besides registration camps are being organized in Jammu district at different places particularly in educational institutions so that eligible voters can register themselves in electoral roll.
He urged the students to ensure their maximum participation in elections by casting their valuable vote irrespective of caste, colour and creed to bring greater transparency and accountability in democratic setup.
The campaign has been launched in Jammu district by District Election Officer Jammu (Deputy Commissioner Jammu) Ajeet Kumar Sahu under the overall supervision of Chief Electoral Officer J&K Mr. Umang Narula and under guidance of Election Commission of India. The slogan of the campaign is Chalo Youth to the Booth.
A pledge was also taken on the occasion besides skit depicting value of voting right was also presented by artists of Natrang Theatre Group.
